After posing for pictures for so many years...
...I still end up looking like this.

I am not embarrassed to show these goofy pictures on my blog and Instagram because I like to believe it shows I am having fun and don't always take this whole thing seriously. For that reason, it may come as a surprise that I still get really shy when it comes to taking pictures in public and it is something that I am constantly working on. I hope one day I get so confident that I make it on the influencersinthewild page. I'm partially kidding.

Since my confidence is not 100%, I want to share some things I like to keep in mind when taking pictures in public:

#1 Avoid the rush.

You can easily avoid the crowds by checking the Google profile for the place you are visiting and scrolling down to popular times on any given day. Introverts like myself love this feature! I'm a professional people dodger.

#2 Remember, this is the new norm!

People are always taking pictures in public now, especially the younger generation. Yes, I'm looking at you TikTokers! I feel that I see more people doing TikTok dances and taking pictures while waiting in line at Disneyland, at the store, on street, etc... They don't care if people are watching, so we shouldn't either!

#3 What's the worst that can happen?

People generally do not care that you are taking pictures, as long as you are not doing anything disrespectful/inappropriate like standing on private property, or destroying wildlife. Maybe someone will shoot you a glance or two, but they will eventually turn the other way. If they are really staring, put on a show for them (jk?), or move to a different location until they go away.

#4 Have fun!

Body language is everything. If you feel awkward and shy it will reflect in your pictures! Relax and just have fun to showcase your most authentic self. Pretend the camera is your best friend, or better yet, have your best friend take your pictures. My husband is my official photographer, hence the goofy expressions and non-high-fashion-model poses in most of my pictures.

#5 Keep going

I know I said that I still get shy when I take pictures in public, but I promise that after doing it for so long, I feel much better! I am not as self-conscious as I used to be. The only way to build up confidence is to keep striking poses without a care in the world!

I shopped my closet for this look and focused on wearing items I don't really wear, or have never worn before. This is part of my plan to consume less while being mindful of the things I already own. I wore a long-sleeve, collar blouse under this old knitted sweater and kept the blazer on for some of the pictures.  I purchased my white boots last year from Lulu's, so they are currently sold out. I was not planning on wearing so much green originally, but I think I like how this look turned out.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I appreciate all the love and support!

Much Love,
PerlaGiselle

  4. I love your post girl!
I don’t care about ppl staring at me while taking pics. Because in my country in some locations it is still weird to ppl to take pics. Anyway, we have to enjoy the process and be focused on it, that’s the key to a good result.

  5. I am the worst at feeling and looking photogenic :') But I'm working on it & have been for the last couple of years!! I do feel slightly more comfortable in front of the camera, and I am very determined to make 2020 the year I feel great about having my photo taken! xx

And yeah...even after all these years, I still get awkward taking pics with people around, which is why most of my pics are in our backyard...bwahaha!

  7. I'm still pretty self-conscious when taking photos in public. I live in NYC, so I see people having photoshoots all the time even though the streets are always so crowded and I wish I could have their confidence. It'll take practice I guess. Thanks for the tips!

  13. Hahahaha hola!

Me gustaron mucho tus tips y como dices is the new norm! Todo mundo lo hace ;)

PS: Las fotos están súper divertidas y me gusta el look con los toques en blanco *__*

I'm ashamed to take pictures when there are a lot of people, but one of the things I've really been thinking about is that this is really the new normal. Everyone takes pictures of everyone and everything, all the time!

  18. I am in the "Whats the worst that can happen camp?"Really nothing. I use to DREAD shooting for that reason feeling like I am being looked at. Now? I don't care. The last shoot I had we were shooting in the middle of Chelsea Market tourists and shoppers were walking by, some stopped and looked, many just walked on. It really doesn't bother me anymore at all. I have got quite use to it. And there is a part of me that kind of likes it lol.

  23. Love the blazer with the olive jeans, such a nice outfit! :) These are great tips too! I don't take pics out in public often - it's hard with two little ones to watch, and now my eldest has started school I've lost my "out and about" photographer - my youngest doesn't really understand how to aim the phone, haha! So I'm almost always taking pics in the back yard so I don't have to think too much about taking them while I'm out!

Hope that you had a lovely weekend :) We had a quiet one at home.

  52. You are too cute! I love everything about this look. From the hair, makeup and, of course, the outfit. It all works so well together. I love that you have fun taking your photos. If it's too serious and there's too much pressure it starts to feel more like a chore. I love your tips. For me, it's talking on camera. I did it for a few years on YouTube, but I really challenged myself to do it. I'm one that feeds off of people's expressions when talking and interacting that when I can't see who I'm talking to, I get nervous. I hope you and your family are doing well, girlie.
