After posing for pictures for so many years...
...I still end up looking like this.

I am not embarrassed to show these goofy pictures on my blog and Instagram because I like to believe it shows I am having fun and don't always take this whole thing seriously. For that reason, it may come as a surprise that I still get really shy when it comes to taking pictures in public and it is something that I am constantly working on. I hope one day I get so confident that I make it on the influencersinthewild page. I'm partially kidding.

Since my confidence is not 100%, I want to share some things I like to keep in mind when taking pictures in public:

#1 Avoid the rush.

You can easily avoid the crowds by checking the Google profile for the place you are visiting and scrolling down to popular times on any given day. Introverts like myself love this feature! I'm a professional people dodger.

#2 Remember, this is the new norm!

People are always taking pictures in public now, especially the younger generation. Yes, I'm looking at you TikTokers! I feel that I see more people doing TikTok dances and taking pictures while waiting in line at Disneyland, at the store, on street, etc... They don't care if people are watching, so we shouldn't either!

#3 What's the worst that can happen?

People generally do not care that you are taking pictures, as long as you are not doing anything disrespectful/inappropriate like standing on private property, or destroying wildlife. Maybe someone will shoot you a glance or two, but they will eventually turn the other way. If they are really staring, put on a show for them (jk?), or move to a different location until they go away.

#4 Have fun!

Body language is everything. If you feel awkward and shy it will reflect in your pictures! Relax and just have fun to showcase your most authentic self. Pretend the camera is your best friend, or better yet, have your best friend take your pictures. My husband is my official photographer, hence the goofy expressions and non-high-fashion-model poses in most of my pictures.

#5 Keep going

I know I said that I still get shy when I take pictures in public, but I promise that after doing it for so long, I feel much better! I am not as self-conscious as I used to be. The only way to build up confidence is to keep striking poses without a care in the world!

I shopped my closet for this look and focused on wearing items I don't really wear, or have never worn before. This is part of my plan to consume less while being mindful of the things I already own. I wore a long-sleeve, collar blouse under this old knitted sweater and kept the blazer on for some of the pictures.  I purchased my white boots last year from Lulu's, so they are currently sold out. I was not planning on wearing so much green originally, but I think I like how this look turned out.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I appreciate all the love and support!

Much Love,

  1. ¡¡¡Holiiii!!!

  2. Love this post Perlita, it is so true!
I am taking streetstyle pictures since more than 10 years and I also love to avoid big crowds.

    Best greetings, Eva

  4. I love your post girl!
I don’t care about ppl staring at me while taking pics. Because in my country in some locations it is still weird to ppl to take pics. Anyway, we have to enjoy the process and be focused on it, that’s the key to a good result.

  5. I am the worst at feeling and looking photogenic :') But I'm working on it & have been for the last couple of years!! I do feel slightly more comfortable in front of the camera, and I am very determined to make 2020 the year I feel great about having my photo taken! xx

  6. These pics are too cute:) Love your outfit, girl.
And yeah...even after all these years, I still get awkward taking pics with people around, which is why most of my pics are in our backyard...bwahaha!
PS OMG! Thanks for the link to that influencersinthe wild! Hahaha....I can't even!

  7. I'm still pretty self-conscious when taking photos in public. I live in NYC, so I see people having photoshoots all the time even though the streets are always so crowded and I wish I could have their confidence. It'll take practice I guess. Thanks for the tips!

  9. Having fun is definitely key and I think the more you just get out there and just do it the more comfortable and relaxed you will become. These photos came out great and you look adorable!

  11. This is such a great post with so many cute photos! And thanks for sharing these tips...I still sometimes feel awkward taking photos in public but I'm finally after a few years getting used to it. :)

  12. This is a lovely post, and you look amazing.

  13. Hahahaha hola!

Me gustaron mucho tus tips y como dices is the new norm! Todo mundo lo hace ;)

PS: Las fotos están súper divertidas y me gusta el look con los toques en blanco *__*

  14. This was so interesting for reading and I completely agree with every of your tips. You look so beautiful on photos.

  15. Great tips and I adore these pictures, you look really lovely!

  16. So beautiful! ♥
I loved your photos, they are so spontaneous and fun !!
I loved your outift too <3
I'm ashamed to take pictures when there are a lot of people, but one of the things I've really been thinking about is that this is really the new normal. Everyone takes pictures of everyone and everything, all the time!

  17. Really you look so natural and confident in these pics, dear! So pretty!
I'm very embrarassed when have to take pics in public, wmaybe ith people that look at me... even if I know well that all you've said here is totally right!
Maybe with time I'll became more confident and start to feel this normal, who knows?

  18. I am in the "Whats the worst that can happen camp?"Really nothing. I use to DREAD shooting for that reason feeling like I am being looked at. Now? I don't care. The last shoot I had we were shooting in the middle of Chelsea Market tourists and shoppers were walking by, some stopped and looked, many just walked on. It really doesn't bother me anymore at all. I have got quite use to it. And there is a part of me that kind of likes it lol.

  19. I love the different poses you incorporate in your posts! Confidence is something we all build up. I know I get a bit sensitive when people look at me while I am getting my pictures taken... But haters gonna hate!!!! Or people are just plain curious, which is fine. I love these tips to keep your mind going for these photoshoots!

  20. You look so gorgeous in these pictures! I love how you styled your hair with the bobby pins to the side. I also feel really awkward shooting in public. I hate it when people look at me! I had no idea about the google profile feature! As a fellow introvert, I will definitely be checking that out haha!

  21. I love that you have fun with your poses and photos Perla! Don't you dare stop :P xx

  22. Such a great post and your photos are amazing. Thank you for sharing.

  23. Love the blazer with the olive jeans, such a nice outfit! :) These are great tips too! I don't take pics out in public often - it's hard with two little ones to watch, and now my eldest has started school I've lost my "out and about" photographer - my youngest doesn't really understand how to aim the phone, haha! So I'm almost always taking pics in the back yard so I don't have to think too much about taking them while I'm out!

Hope that you had a lovely weekend :) We had a quiet one at home.

  26. Your photos are still super cute. My ones are incredibly questionable hahaha. But I love that more and more bloggers are sharing their bloopers. I think this is such a fun idea. I'm also loving the idea of googling locations for people traffic. HOLY S*** how did I not know/think of this before! Life. Is. Forever. Changed.

  27. You had me at not having a care in the world. I love your pictures, wonderful tips too.

  28. You look fantastic..
I am horribly awkward an taking pictures that are not the basic stand straight and look at the camera and smile..

  38. I loved, you look so happy, and that is what matters.

  39. Ah these are all true. But I don't feel embarrassed anymore, it's my husband who's taking the pictures who gets embarrassed and I wish he can read this post too. Hope you are doing well in your end.

I also was very quiet the past months. Would love to see you back again,
love your content. Hope you are doing well!?

    Lots of love x Eva

  55. You are too cute! I love everything about this look. From the hair, makeup and, of course, the outfit. It all works so well together. I love that you have fun taking your photos. If it's too serious and there's too much pressure it starts to feel more like a chore. I love your tips. For me, it's talking on camera. I did it for a few years on YouTube, but I really challenged myself to do it. I'm one that feeds off of people's expressions when talking and interacting that when I can't see who I'm talking to, I get nervous. I hope you and your family are doing well, girlie.

  56. I think your second point is really key. Thanks for sharing.

  57. I really like this outfit. You look amazing.

  58. Me encantó tu tip número 4, hay que dejar la timidez para las fotos, eso me ayudará mucho y que te las tome alguien de confianza. Saludos desde El Blog de Boris Estebitan, como siempre, tu blog es muy lindo.

  59. I have many hobbies. I love to travel and read. But my favorite hobby is cooking. Let me tell you why! First, I'll tell you a little bit about why I started cooking. Secondly, I'll give you some information about what I like to cook. Third, I will say how I use the Blog ẩm thực for cooking.

When I started cooking, I was 10 years old. My mom wants me to be a chef. She has always believed that girls have to make different types of food, because one day they will get married. In my country, it is normal for girls not to cook. I feel lucky because I can cook many dishes. Now that I cook some of the dishes my children and husband love, I become happy and proud of my mother and myself. Foody
