.bouncing back.

When you follow accounts that uplift you,
social media does not feel as bad.

For a very long time I found myself constantly taking breaks from social media (IG mainly) because I started to feel burnt out after every session of endless scrolling. I realized recently that it was not the app itself that was making me feel that way, but the accounts I was following. I started unfollowing accounts that didn't provide me with useful information, or spark joy (yes, I'm borrowing from Marie Kondo). I also started following accounts that provide uplifting messages and resonate with me as a new mom. Logging into IG and scrolling is not as daunting anymore.

It's really easy to fall into the trap of feeling that you are not good enough on social media. I'll admit that I was feeling a bit discouraged seeing so many new moms "bouncing back" to their pre-pregnancy body a few weeks after having their babies. However, I feel that the opposite can also be true as long as you remember that social media is not a representation of real life and you follow accounts that do spark joy. Real-life is already hard enough, so it's worth unfollowing those accounts that do not uplift you. Have you done any social media spring cleaning?

Speaking of spring cleaning, I enjoy cleaning out my closet and donating items that I do now wear. This type of dress will stay in my closet for a long time because it is so easy to wear. The print is not too bold, it's flowy, flattering and I can easily breastfeed Luna with it! I've worn it multiple times and it's my go-to dress when I don't feel like styling anything else. The best part is I don't really have to iron it! Ironing/steaming clothes are one of the things that do not spark joy in me, so I try my best to avoid it. Haha.

I hope you are all enjoying Spring so far. We only have one month left before the official start of summer! I appreciate you and thank you for your support!

Much Love,
PerlaGiselle

  2. I feel the same about social media recently. I have a hard time keeping up with stories and feeds. Social media is definitely not a real representation - you don't need to share everything and there shouldn't be pressure :). I love your outfit!!

  3. Good for your for making social media work for you! I rarely put my efforts on Instagram. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing haha? I have this mindset on putting my blinders on and following only accounts I care about! btw, your dress is SO CUTE!

  6. This dress is super cute and you look great in it:) I hate ironing too, so something like this is definitely a win:D
And yeah...don't want to be judgemental but I just don't get those moms who concentrate on their weight right after having a baby. Like, really?

  8. I stepped away from social media because I have had some stressful work related issues to deal with. Blogging always feels less stressful to me. Bloggers always inspire me, whereas social media can be overwhelming at times. Blogging feels more human if you know what I mean.

This is a lovely styling. Gorgeous dress! I love how you paired it with sandals and a straw bag. You look stunning!!!!

  9. I try and keep my feed inspirational too, and don't follow accounts for the sake of "following back". I just follow the accounts that I really enjoy.

  10. Maybe ich should do that, too. I sometimes am afraid, that my instagram will load new posts, before I can make it out of the app again. It puts a lot of pressure on us women, to see others doing so much better than us, eventhough many posts dont show the reality.

I liked reading your blog post, I followed you on GFC ♥

  12. Hey there, pretty little thing! And totally agree- unfollowing accounts that don't make you feel good or aren't sparking that joy is REALLY important. I did the same and it's pretty liberating! :)

  14. I did the social media cull a while back and honestly I don't spend much time on there because it's better to live life than look at it on a screen. This dress looks fabulous on you and the classic silhouette and fun print will definitely not be going out of style anytime soon.

  15. I hear you about social media and in particular IG. Though I do think it is the app itself too. I did something similar and try to keep my following very curated. But still I am pretty sick of IG and only do it b/c I have a blog. It all looks the same to me now. I prefer blogs and YT...longer form content and more engagement as opposed to endless scrolling and liking...like, like, like, ugh. And if I see more more female in a sped up trying on an outfit I am gonna barf!

This dress is so cute. I love the aesthetic and so glad it is trending!

  29. You look absolutley fantastic in your dress first of all.
Yes social media can be toxic, but I found an account who exposes all the photoshop that models and celebrities do, it is insane they sometimes look like different people in real life. So I learned that also they are not perfect and everyone has their own flaws and it is less draining now to watch for me.
    Best greetings xoxo Eva

  37. It's when you're truly good to yourself that you're best to others. Eventually, given the inherent divinity within us, whether we realize it or not, we feel warm inside when we are kind to others.

  38. Hey Perlita, how you doing?

Me da gusto ver que estés de vuelta con tu blog, siempre me gusta mucho lo que compartes. And I totally understand that feeling with social media since I always have struggles with time and productivity, especially when it comes to spend too much time in social media.... And that's why I totally get your point, it is so important to fill our time with accounts that inspire us and make us feel a little better and not the opposite, as you mentioned life is already too difficult... so let's start sparkling more joy on social media :)
