Alaska has to be one of the most beautiful states I have visited in the United States.

I mean no offense to all the other 49 states (I'm looking at you, California).
I only got a tiny glimpse of this gorgeous state, considering that it is the largest state in the United States and it is more than twice the size of Texas (I'll admit I did not know that until I came on this trip). So yes, there is a whole lot to see and one of the main things that was on my to-do list (and bucket-list) was to see the northern lights, or aurora borealis.
Except I did not see the aurora borealis.
I was, however, greeted by rainy, cloudy skies and I also got really sick the minute I arrived to the airport. This was supposed to be my "last adventure" before my baby is born and it did not start off the way I was hoping. I've had many setbacks in the past during my travels, so I still tried to make the most of it. Nonetheless, Alaska still provided me with the most beautiful, scenic views I have ever experienced.
I drove almost two hours in the rain from Anchorage to the Portage Glacier, which I think is a must-do especially if you have never seen a glacier up-close. The drive alone is definitely worth your time. I recommend going to the visitor center before heading down to the boat so that you can purchase your cruise tickets first, buy some souvenirs and a nice, hot drink. It was cold and rainy when I arrived, which felt more intense at the top deck. Luckily I had a rain jacket and they have some on the boat for those who do not take their own. As soon as I got my pictures for the gram I went downstairs for the rest of the cruise where it was covered and much warmer.
I also recommend stopping by the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to see buffalo, moose and caribou up-close and personal. By the time I arrived to the AWCC, I was so exhausted that I did not want to go out in the rain to look at these majestic creatures. Instead, I snapped a few pictures from outside the conservation center. I felt bad that I was going to miss out, but my body felt so weak I just wanted to get to a warm bed and rest.

I really wish I had taken more pictures in Anchorage, but I was distracted by all the beauty around me. I also took a flight into the city of Fairbanks and got to visit a nearby town that I always thought was made-up! I'll post about that next!
What is your favorite state in the USA and why?
