.traditional modern.

I don't fit into any of my traditional Mexican clothes,
so this is the best I can do.

Mexican independence day just passed and I have to mention that many people get this very important holiday confused with 5 de Mayo even though they have nothing to do with each other. 5 de Mayo is not really celebrated in Mexico and is more of an annoying American holiday that has become synonymous with sloppy drunk people eating non-authentic Mexican food and wearing offensive costumes for the sake of "celebrating" our culture. I have so much more to say, but I'll stop my rant here, I pinky promise.

A really close friend got married on the 15th of September and asked her guests to wear their traditional Mexican attire and a lot of people did! It was really cute seeing everyone in their colorful clothes and I wish I had taken more pictures during the party. I had to do a modern take on my look since my traditional garments do not fit! Lol.

I paired this ruffle eyelet top with stretchy pencil skirt that I absolutely love because the fabric has some shine to it that tricks people into thinking it's leather. Did you fall for it?!? No? Okay. I wore this huge red rose hair clip that I made and a matching, vintage red straw purse I purchased at a thrift store many years ago. Gold accessories are my go-to, as always, and I added nude sandals because I really wanted the red to pop and be the highlight of my outfit. I later changed into a teal dress, but I forgot to take pictures in it!
When someone says "happy cinco de mayo" to me

16 de Septiembre is the REAL Mexican Independence Day!

Thinking about the snacks in my purse

You guys have no idea how much I miss my country. I had a trip booked to Mexico long before I even knew I was pregnant, but my doctor forbade me to go because of the Zyka virus. I was really heartbroken, but I am going back as soon as my baby girl is born. Mexico is considered a megadiverse country and is home to deserts, rainforests, pristine beaches and many more. If you haven't had a chance to visit, I hope you do someday.

Are there any places in Mexico you recommend visiting, or would like to visit?

Thank you so much for stopping by!
Much love,
PerlaGiselle

  4. Oh my really? People really think of 5 de Mayo as day celebrating independence? Wow. I always thought of it as another St Patricks Day IE: another day to get drunk.

Your outfit is gorgeous love the ruffly OTS top and the bow in the hair is so pretty as is the bag!

  5. I love this take on the traditional outfit, Perla:) You look lovely. Love the flower hair accessory.
PS Thanks for the lovely comment on my post. I don't take as much pics on my film camera just because I'm limited to the the no. of exposures on the roll, and also because I don't develop them myself so it takes awhile.

Me encantó tu redefinición del look mexicano, es tan bonito y patrio, pero sin parecer un disfraz, creo que incluso podrías ponerte este outfit en una noche o cena cualquiera :D
