I couldn't wait to travel with my baby when I found out I was pregnant.
I've traveled with babies before, specifically with my baby sister (since she was 5 months old), so I knew that even though traveling with a baby is a lot of work, it is also very rewarding! However, I gave birth to a baby that sometimes (without warning) breaks into a crying fit even though she ate, slept and is clean. It took us a while to come to the realization that we just have a baby who demands more attention and trust me, she DEMANDS it. For this reason, it is no surprise that I cancelled what was supposed to be her first flight at 2 weeks old. I put off traveling with her for so long because I would stress out just thinking about it. I'm stressing out right now.
We have been on a few mini road trips with her, which required us to pull over several times to take her out of her car seat after what felt like an eternity of hysterical crying. She really hates her car seat! I knew that an almost-5-hour flight, which we have coming up soon, would be torture for everyone, so I decided to book a 1-hour flight as a practice run and we survived...ish. She was calm as long as the plane was in the air and as long as she was on my boob, so it wasn't too bad. As nerve-racking as it was, I have booked a few other short trips because I amcrazy hoping she gets used to traveling.
It makes a huge difference if you travel with another adult. Luckily, we traveled with my husband for Luna's first flight, so I only have a few travel trips based on the little experience I have acquired so far. We sat in the front even though we had a short flight because we wanted to get off the plane as soon as possible incase Luna got fussy upon landing. I took on a minimalist approach to packing because we wanted to take one carry-on for all three of us, which we managed beautifully! The only other thing we had to carry around was her diaper bag, which I wore as a backpack. The less you have to lug around with a baby, the better, and bonus points if you manage to free your hands during your travels! I used the baby carrier as much as possible to achieve this. Last but not least, breastfeed your baby (if possible), especially during take-off and landing to help calm the baby.
I am really behind on posting, so most of these pictures are from our first mini road trip to San Diego where we stayed at the Marriot Marquis & Marina for a few days. In retrospect, I shouldn't have bothered taking pictures of this outfit, even if I loved the shoes that much, but here they are anyway!
P.S. I have come to terms with the fact that I have to sacrifice my own OOTDs now that I have to pack several outfits for another human. There is only so much room in one carry-on for two people, especially when one of them drools, spits up and has diaper accidents every now and then. That person is Luna, for those of you that might be confused about who I am referring to.
Thank you for stopping by!
Much Love,
PerlaGiselle

I remember I travelled with my 5 months on a 11 hours long flight. How I survived I don't know. Only I know I survived. :D

DeleteYou are doing an amazing job I had twins and I refused to stopping doing things I love I travelled with them everywhere from a very early age and they got me in trouble a couple of times because of screaming in public places but do you know what? I thought this is life if people are not happy when children are crying they can remove themselves or hire a private jet. Enjoy your trips and I love your outfit babe you look amazing xoxo Cris

DeleteGood thing you clarified it was Luna who had the spit ups, I was starting to get worried ;)
ReplyDeleteTraveling with a baby is challenging for sure, but it will get easier with time.
Haha you are so funny! Thank you so much!
DeleteLuna is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTraveling with a small child must be very laborious and requires care, but so good that she has generally behaved well.
So you get used to being able to travel a lot and meet some amazing places!

Yes and thank you so much!
DeleteYes, some babies are like that, more prone to crying than others, I don't think there is really an explanation for it. Luna is so cute, though. I can understand where you are coming from, wanting to share the joys of travelling with your baby but at the same time worrying how she will react to it. Maybe it is better you waited a little bit, it seems you're getting on ok with her now. Adorable family moments captured on camera btw.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I really appreciate your kind words!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad the first flight went well! We waited until my boys were much older for their first flight, haha! it was only an hour two and they did well but it's harder when they have to be on your lap the whole time. My next trip they will be old enough for their own seats which will make a difference I think!
Hope you are having a great week! My mum and I both have the day off today so we are going to have fun and go shopping :)
